God Lives In Me? Wow!
1 Cor 3:16 & Rom 8:11
(ASV) Know ye not that ye are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
(BBE) Do you not see that you are God’s holy house, and that the Spirit of God has his place in you?
(GNB) Surely you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you!
(ISV) You know that you are God’s sanctuary and that God’s Spirit lives in you, don’t you?
(KJV) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
(YLT) have ye not known that ye are a sanctuary of God, and the Spirit of God doth dwell in you?
There was a song with the words of 1 Cor 3:16, we song when I was a kid. Just the other day God allowed that song and scripture to be quickened to me. I started to meditate on it and ponder its meaning and the revelation that it brought was so wonderful I wanted to share it with all of my friends and family. It occurred to me that God has chosen to live in me and all of His people, not in a temple made with human hands.
I thought about the temple that Solomon built and how when the priests would enter the holy of holies once a year that they had to have a rope around their legs in case they had not adequately prepared to enter the cloud in the Holy of Holies. Then to think that the power that was present there lives inside me, it made me shudder and then rejoice. To think that God has chosen in all of His power to live in me, just seems too amazing.
This concept also helps me to see the value that he places on my life. I know that my value does not come from my blood line, good looks, talents, abilities or accomplishments. My worth is only His investment in me, the blood of Jesus that purchased me.
What a wonderful deal, God has taken up residence in me. I can rejoice in this!
If you add then, Rom 8:11 (used in another song I sung as a kid and one I’ve written as well), you will find even more reason to rejoice.
(ASV) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
(BBE) But if the Spirit of him who made Jesus come again from the dead is in you, he who made Christ Jesus come again from the dead will in the same way, through his Spirit which is in you, give life to your bodies which now are under the power of death.
(GNB) If the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from death, lives in you, then he who raised Christ from death will also give life to your mortal bodies by the presence of his Spirit in you.
(ISV) And if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then the one who raised Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive by his Spirit who lives in you.
(KJV) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
(YLT) and if the Spirit of Him who did raise up Jesus out of the dead doth dwell in you, He who did raise up the Christ out of the dead shall quicken also your dying bodies, through His Spirit dwelling in you.
I don’t think that I fully comprehend that kind of power dwelling in me, but just the thought of it does make wonder if I have been missing something.
